Environmental Strategies

We are committed to impacting communities on a large scale, making population-level change as opposed to providing direct service. Environmental strategies often call for a change in policy to reduce risk factors in our communities and to increase protective factors. For example, the Social Host ordinance was passed in Maple Grove, Medina, Minnetonka, Orono, and Plymouth. Social Host makes it unlawful for a person to host or allow a gathering on any premise if a person underage is in possession of alcohol or any consumption of alcoholic beverages occurs. We know from research that access is a proven risk factor to use so we are working with agencies across our community to decrease access.

Communication & Education

A large part of what we do centers around increasing the public's knowledge and awareness about particular issues. Whether this is emerging trends around e-cigarettes and tobacco use or brain development research that shows the impact of marijuana use on the developing brain, we want to make it easy for parents, youth, and community members to access important information.

We partner with Wayzata Public Schools and the Parenting with Vision series to offer one or two educational programs each year regarding a topic related but not limited to youth substance use, brain development, mental wellness, and/or parenting skills.
